Former minister Farhad’s wife Monalisa sent to jail
A district court has sent Syeda Monalisa Islam, wife of former public administration minister Farhad Hossain, to jail after completion of a three-day remand in a case over attacking protesters during the July-August uprising.
Meherpur Magistrate Sharmin Nahar rejected her bail application and ordered her to be sent to prison on Thursday.
Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Zahirul Islam, took Monalisa to court at 12 noon after a three-day remand amid tight security.
Police arrested her from the Eskaton area of Dhaka on Sunday night (February 16) in a case filed by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The investigating officer of the case produced her in the Meherpur Administrative Court the next day on February 17 and applied for a seven-day remand.
At that time, Judge Sharmin Nahar granted Monalisa a three-day remand. Court Inspector Manash Ranjan Das said that when Monalisa applied for a seven-day remand in the case filed by anti-discrimination students, the court granted her a three-day remand. On the other hand, she was shown arrested in the case filed by another woman named Poli Khatun.
At that time, Public Prosecutor Saidur Razzak, Court Inspector Manash Ranjan Das, and Ibrahim Shaheen acted as lawyers for the accused in the case.
Sources said that she is the accused in the 12th complaint filed by the anti-discrimination students at the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal. In addition, Monalisa is the main accused in a GR case filed by Poli Khatun on August 5.
