Former MP Anar murder accused Shimul gets HC bail
The High Court has granted bail to Shimul Bhuiyan, an accused in the abduction and murder case of former Awami League MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
A High Court bench issued a rule on Monday, June 8, granting him interim bail.
On May 13, 2024, then MP Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered and dismembered in a flat in New Town area of Kolkata. The victim's daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, filed a case at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on May 22 of that year.
On June 5 of that year, Amanullah Said, also known as Shimul Bhuiyan, Shihab or Fazl Mohammad Bhuiyan, a former extremist leader, gave a confessional statement before the court under Section 164. He was later sent to jail.
Following Anar's murder, then home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told a press conference in Dhaka that police had arrested three individuals in the country based on information from Indian police. They were Amanullah Said alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Tanvir Bhuiyan and Celesti Rahman.
