Former MP Moshtaq Ruhi arrested from house in Mohammadpur

Police has arrested former Member of Parliament (MP) of Netrokona-1 constituency Moshtaq Ahmed Ruhi from Mohammadpur of the capital.

He was arrested from a house on Iqbal Road of Mohammadpur around 5pm on Wednesday (September 23).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of DMP Md Ibne Mizan has confirmed the matter.

He informed that Moshtaq Ahmed Ruhi had been in hiding since after August 5 of 2024. There are multiple cases against him including the anti-discrimination movement.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur police station Abdul Halim informed that he has been arrested by conducting a drive on the basis of secret information. The legal activities against him are under process.

It is mentionable that Moshtaq Ahmed Ruhi was elected Member of Parliament from Netrokona-1 constituency with the nomination of Awami League (currently activities banned) in the 12th National Parliament election. Earlier he had also been elected Member of Parliament with the nomination of the same party in the election of 2008.
