Former MP Selima Ahmad Meri passes away
Selima Ahmad Meri, former Member of Parliament for the Cumilla-2 (Homna-Titas) constituency and former Vice President of the Cumilla North District Awami League, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un).
She breathed her last around 7:30pm Bangladesh time while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangkok, Thailandon Sunday. Her cousin, Minhaj Al-Islam, confirmed the news of her demise.
According to family sources, Selima Ahmad had been battling cancer for a long time. She was admitted to the Bangkok hospital following a deterioration in her physical condition, where she passed away while on life support.
Former Mayor of Homna Municipality and Vice President of Upazila Awami League, Nazrul Islam, also confirmed her passing.
Selima Ahmad Meri was the wife of Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Chairman of the country's leading industrial conglomerate Nitol-Niloy Group and former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). She was also the founding President of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) and played a pioneering role in developing and promoting women entrepreneurship across the country.
