Former NCP leader Mir Arshadul Haque joins BNP
Former joint secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and chief coordinator of Chattogram city unit, Mir Arshadul Haque, has formally joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He joined the party on Wednesday, January 7, at 2pm at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, receiving primary membership from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir after meeting acting chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP Media Cell confirmed.
Earlier, on December 25, Mir Arshadul resigned from NCP, announcing through a Facebook post that he would withdraw from all party positions and would not contest the election from Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) seat.
Explaining his decision, he said NCP failed to uphold the promises of political reform following the July mass uprising. He stated that under the current political reality, BNP under Tarique Rahman’s leadership is the only viable option to restore democracy and stability.
He also urged young voters to avoid populism and support BNP considering the country’s future and public welfare.
