Dr Kamal Siddiqui, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and a Freedom Fighter, has passed away. He breathed his last at his residence in Gulshan early on Monday, November 3. His funeral prayer (namaz-e-janaza) will be held after Asr prayer at the Azad Mosque in Gulshan, followed by burial at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard. Dr Kamal Siddiqui served as principal secretary to former PM Khaleda Zia till 2006, playing key administrative and policy roles. He participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. During the 1971 Liberation War, Kamal Siddiqui was the sub-divisional officer of Norail. He resigned, walked to India to join the war, and after independence became DC and District Magistrate of Khulna.

সাবেক মুখ্যসচিব ও বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ড. কামাল সিদ্দিকী আর নেই। সোমবার (৩ নভেম্বর) ভোরে গুলশানে নিজ বাসভবনে তিনি শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন। সোমবার সকালে সরকারি তথ্য বিবরণীতে তার মৃত্যুর খবর নিশ্চিত করা হয়েছে। পারিবারিক সূত্রে জানা গেছে, আসরের নামাজের পর গুলশানের আজাদ মসজিদে তার নামাজে জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। এরপর তাঁকে মিরপুর শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবী কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হবে। ড. কামাল সিদ্দিকী ২০০৬ সাল পর্যন্ত তৎকালীন প্রধানমন্ত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার মুখ্যসচিব হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। দীর্ঘ কর্মজীবনে তিনি প্রশাসন ও নীতিনির্ধারণী অঙ্গনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখেন।
