Former state minister Mahbub Ali's bail to remain suspended
The Appellate Division has suspended the bail granted by the High Court to former state minister for aviation Mahbub Ali in Siam murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station in the capital.
At the same time, the court has ordered the rule issued on his bail plea to be disposed of within a month.
A three-judge appellate bench led by senior Justice Ashfaqul Islam of the Appellate Division passed the order on Tuesday (December 17).
Senior lawyer SM Shahjahan moved on behalf of Mahbub Ali in the court while Additional Attorney General Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Deputy Attorney General Zahirul Islam Sumon represented the state.
An application was submitted to the High Court seeking cancellation of bail granted to former State Minister for Aviation Mahbub Ali.
On December 12, the Chamber Court suspended the bail granted to Mahbub Ali by the High Court and sent it to the Appellate Division. Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division passed this order. Additional Attorney General Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Deputy Attorney General Zahirul Islam Sumon moved on behalf of the state in the court.
Earlier, a High Court bench headed by Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty granted him bail on December 10.
According to the case statement, victim Siam Sardar (17) worked at Hotel Rabbani in Mirpur. On July 18, he was shot dead in Mirpur-10 while returning home after duty during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
His father, Sohag Sardar, filed a murder case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 4. The court accepted the plaintiff's statement and ordered the Mirpur police station to register it as a case. Some 114 people, including former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, were named as accused in the case.
