Former UP member found dead in Bogura hotel room

Police have recovered the body of Bipul Chandra Pal, 48, a former elected member of a union parishad, from a hotel in the Charmatha area of Bogura town on Saturday afternoon, June 6. The body was found in room number 610 of Hotel Century.

Bipul Chandra Pal was a resident of Palpara village in Erulia union of Bogura Sadar upazila and had been elected as a union parishad member twice.

According to police and hotel sources, Pal checked into the hotel room around 9:30 pm on Friday night. When he failed to check out by the scheduled time on Saturday, hotel staff went to check and found the door locked from inside. Police were informed and later recovered the body.

Hotel receptionist Md Enamul Haque said Pal had taken the room for an overnight stay. When he did not respond after the checkout time had passed, the matter seemed suspicious and police were informed.

Town police outpost in-charge Inspector Jalal Uddin said the body was found in an unconscious state. A sexual stimulant tablet was also recovered from the room. The cause of death could not be confirmed immediately.

The body has been sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
