Former upazila chairman Masud arrested in Naogaon

Police have arrested former upazila chairman Md Masudur Rahman Masud, a member of the banned Awami Jubo League, in Mahadebpur, Naogaon. He was arrested on Saturday afternoon from the Kunjbon Puratan Bazar area of Khajur Union in the upazila.

The arrested Masudur Rahman Masud is the son of Md Jasim Uddin Pramanik of Kunjbon village.

Confirming the arrest, Mahadebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk said Masud was returning home after buying medicine from the old bridge area of the upazila when he was arrested. Multiple cases are pending against him at the police station, including charges of campaigning for the banned Awami League. He was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and will be sent to jail through court.

It is noteworthy that Masudur Rahman Masud was elected upazila chairman as an independent candidate in the last upazila parishad elections in 2024 during the previous Awami League government.
