Four arrested for placing flowers at Dhanmondi 32, sued under Anti-Terrorism Act
Three women and one man were arrested by police while attempting to place flowers with a procession at Dhanmondi 32 on the occasion of historic March 7. Later, a case was filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act and they were sent to court.
The incident occurred around 6:30 am on Saturday, March 7, in the Dhanmondi 32 area.
Police said a procession of about 30-40 people approached the 32 area from Dhanmondi 27 road in the morning. When the procession reached the 32 area, police obstructed them, and the participants dispersed.
During this time, four individuals were detained by Kalabagan Thana police. Among the arrested are three women and one man.
Kalabagan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Fazle Ashik said the detained individuals were marching with flowers in their hands towards Dhanmondi 32. Four were detained from there, and later a case was filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act and they were sent to court.
Although various programmes were held on this day in the past to commemorate the historic March 7 speech, the situation has changed following the political transition. While the day was celebrated with grandeur during the Awami League's long tenure, it has become largely restricted in recent times.
Following the political change, the interim government decided to cancel several national days, including March 7, and later imposed a ban on all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League. As a result, the party's public programmes remain almost suspended.
