Four brothers killed tenant for assaulting mother: PBI
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has claimed to have uncovered the mystery behind the murder of Rajib Ahmed, 40, in a rented house in Mymensingh city. The agency claims the four sons of the landlord planned and executed the murder over an incident where the tenant had assaulted and molested their mother.
PBI Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman disclosed the information at a press conference on Monday, July 6.
The PBI said they began a discreet investigation after the incident. At one point, the landlord's four sons were arrested. Three of them were named in the murder case.
SP Mizanur Rahman said Rajib had rented a room in the house about a month ago. Allegedly, he used to gather with various people there and consume drugs. When the landlord asked him to vacate the house from the following month, he wanted to stay by force.
The PBI claimed the murder occurred between 6:00 am and 10:00 am on Sunday. In the morning, Rajib kicked the door of the landlord and his sons' room, waking them up. An argument broke out between the two sides. At one point, he assaulted and molested the landlord. Later, the landlord's four sons planned and attacked Rajib's throat with a sharp axe, killing him, and fled.
SP Mizanur Rahman said the four arrested brothers, in preliminary interrogation, said they committed the murder over the incident of their mother's molestation and assault. However, the matter is being investigated further to determine if anyone else was involved.
The PBI said the four were arrested from various parts of the city with the help of information technology and secret information. They have admitted their involvement in the murder and expressed willingness to give confessional statements in court.
Earlier on Sunday morning, police recovered the throat-slit body of Rajib Ahmed from a rented house in the Chattishbari Colony area of Mymensingh city.
The victim's father filed a murder case naming the landlord, his three sons and 11 others, along with three to four unidentified individuals.
Investigation officer and PBI Inspector Mozammel Haque said the main accused, the landlord, is currently undergoing hospital treatment. He will be shown arrested once he recovers. The involvement of two other previously detained individuals is also being investigated.
