Four children die with measles symptoms in Sylhet in 24 hours
Four children died with suspected measles symptoms in Sylhet division in the past 24 hours, taking the number of deaths linked to confirmed and suspected measles cases in the region to 164 this year, health officials said.
The latest deaths were reported from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, according to a report issued by the Sylhet Divisional Health Directorate on Monday morning (September 14).
Two of the deceased children were from Sylhet district, while one each was from Sunamganj and Habiganj. Three died at Osmani Medical College Hospital and the other at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
The children were from Kanaighat and Zakiganj upazilas of Sylhet, Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj and Putijuri area of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj, the report said.
Of the 164 deaths recorded in the division this year, 10 have been confirmed as measles, while 154 involved children who died after developing symptoms consistent with the disease, according to the health directorate.
