Four children drown in Narsingdi
Four children drowned in a beel (large waterbody) in the Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday. The tragic incident occurred at noon in the Barkanda area of the Channderkandi union.
The deceased have been identified as Tabiya, 13, daughter of Shamim Miah; Ayesha, 9, and Jannat, 8, both daughters of Rubel Miah; and Sumaiya, daughter of Billal Hossain. All of them were students of the Gausia Nure Madina Mohila Madrasah in the Barkanda area of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, classes at the Gausia Nure Madina Mohila Madrasah began as usual in the morning. During the subsequent tiffin break, six young students went to bathe in a neighboring beel. When one of the children began to sink, five others rushed in to rescue her. During the attempt, three more children sank underwater.
Upon receiving the news, madrasah authorities and local residents rescued the children from the water. Three of them were rushed to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared them dead.
Confirming the incident, Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mojibur Rahman said they had initially received reports of three children drowning, followed by information regarding a fourth death. He stated that police teams were heading to the spot and that further necessary actions would be taken following discussions with the relatives of the deceased children.
