Four children drown in pond in Narayanganj

Four children drowned in a pond at Khanpara in Duptara Union under Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday evening.

The deceased were identified as Uzaifa, 10, Hafsa, 12, Riya Moni, 8, and Rubaiya, 8. All were students at local schools.

Local sources and police said the children went missing in the afternoon, prompting their family members to search for them. Suspicions arose after relatives spotted their sandals abandoned near the edge of a local pond. Family members and neighbors subsequently searched the water and pulled the four children out.

They were taken to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex and a local clinic, where attending physicians pronounced them dead on arrival.

Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabjel Hossain confirmed that a police team was dispatched to the scene. The bodies were handed over to their families without an autopsy as no formal complaint was lodged.
