Four children drown while collecting water lilies from a pond

Four children from the same family tragically died while collecting water lilies in Rajnagar village of Meherpur Sadar upazila, Sunday, November 9. The incident occurred in the Masurivaja pond area of the upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased children are Fatema, student of class eight, 14, Mim, student of class eight, 14, Afiya, student of class four, 10, and Alsia, student of class four, 10. They are daughters of two brothers, Mojibur Rahman and Shaharul Islam.

According to local sources, the four children went together to the pond to collect water lilies in the afternoon. When they did not return home for a long time, family members became worried and started searching for them.

After a short while, locals saw their bodies floating in the pond and raised an alarm.

The Meherpur Fire Service and Sadar Thana police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies of the four children, and handed them over to the family.

The sudden tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire Rajnagar village. No one seems able to believe that four children from the same family have passed away together. Tears and sorrow fill the eyes of the locals.

Local UP member Majnu said, “This is a very heartbreaking incident. Such a death has stunned our entire area.” Family members said in grief, “They all went to collect flowers together, and left together as well.”

Meanwhile, the death of the children has brought grief across the area. The administration has expressed condolences and urged strengthening safety measures in local water bodies to prevent such accidents.
