Four detained for attempted Awami League procession in Mohakhali

Police have detained four individuals in the capital's Mohakhali area on charges of attempting to carry out a sudden flash procession under the banner of the banned organization Awami League. According to Banani police, others in the group fled the scene after detonating cocktails.

The incident took place around 1:30pm in front of the Muktijoddha Alley adjacent to the Institute of Public Health and the CM pump in Mohakhali on Tuesday (August 11).

The detained individuals are Aslam Mia, 25, and Ashikul Islam, 24, activists of the Government Bangla College Chhatra League, along with Mahfuzur Rahman Siyam, 19, and Monir Hossain, 48, described as activists of the banned Awami League.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Faridul Islam stated that 30 to 40 people gathered under the banner of the banned Awami League's Dhaka City North branch and were preparing for a procession. At that moment, local residents intervened and obstructed them.

Police reported that locals initially detained one person and handed him over to the police, who subsequently detained three more individuals. Meanwhile, others participating in the procession detonated cocktails and fled the scene.
