Four individuals have been fined Tk 50,000 by a mobile court in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah, for transporting goats inhumanly in a passenger bus's luggage compartment. The incident involved a bus heading to Chattogram and occurred at the main bus terminal around 8:00 pm on Thursday.

According to reports, goat trader Milon Hossain from Shibnagar village was sending 12 goats and approximately 100 kg of raw meat packed in two cartons to Chattogram inside a passenger bus's luggage compartment. A teacher noticed the matter and immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the news, a team led by Kaliganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al Faruk conducted a raid at the terminal.

Upazila Livestock Officer Jillu Rain examined the meat at the scene. He reported that while the meat was fit for consumption, the animals were subjected to inhuman treatment during transport.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2019, the mobile court fined goat trader Milon Hossain, bus driver Rabiul Islam, supervisor Nasim, and helper Russell Hossain a total of Tk 50,000.

Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Faruk said there are specific rules for transporting animals. Although livestock should be carried in open trucks, the offenders were transporting goats in the luggage compartment, which is inhumane and violates the law. Action has been taken accordingly.
