Four killed, 10 injured as passenger bus plunges into ditch in Brahmanbaria

At least four people were killed and 10 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The accident took place around noon in the Baishamora area under Shahbazpur Union on Monday (June 8), according to police.

Officials said the bus was travelling at high speed when the driver apparently lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway and overturn in a deep ditch beside the road.

Several passengers sustained critical injuries in the crash, while four people died at the scene.

On information, personnel from Khatihata Highway Police and the Fire Service rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. With assistance from local residents, the injured were pulled from the wreckage and taken to nearby hospitals.

Hospital sources said at least eight of the injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital in serious condition.

Md Abdul Baten, second officer of Khatihata Highway Police Station, confirmed the casualties and said medical treatment for the injured had been arranged immediately.

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, while efforts are underway to identify the victims and assess the full extent of the casualties.
