Four killed, 11 injured in Chattogram road crash
Four people were killed and at least 11 others injured when a microbus collided head-on with a covered van in Chattogram’s Karnaphuli early Sunday (September 13).
The crash took place around 2:45am at Shikalbaha Chowmuhani on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway as the microbus was heading to Eidgaon in Cox’s Bazar after a wedding ceremony at a community centre in Agrabad, police said.
The victims were identified as Mohammad Ferdous Alam, 5, Mipta, 17, and microbus driver Munna, 40. The identity of the fourth victim has yet to be confirmed.
Ferdous and Mipta died at the scene. Three others, including driver Munna and an unidentified person, were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where they later died.
Police and local residents, assisted by firefighters, rescued the injured and took them to the hospital. Several of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
Karnaphuli police said the covered van was making a U-turn when it collided with the microbus, badly crushing its front section. The vehicle was seized after the crash, but its driver and helper fled the scene. Police are conducting a search to arrest them.
Legal proceedings are underway, police said.
