Four killed, two injured in tanker-CNG collision in Sylhet

Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed in a head-on collision between an oil-laden tanker and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sylhet's Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday, August 22. Two others were critically injured in the accident.

The accident occurred around 2:30pm on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Brahmangram area of Osmaninagar upazila, confirmed Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station.

The deceased are Niamat Ali, son of Gofur Mia from Shriramshi area in Sunamganj's Jagannathpur upazila, his wife, his daughter, and the CNG driver Lalon Mia, son of Farid Mia from the Sherpur area.

Locals said the CNG auto-rickshaw was heading from Sherpur to Sylhet. When it reached the Brahmangram area, it collided head-on with a tanker coming from the opposite direction. The auto-rickshaw was crushed in the impact.

Locals rescued seven people, including the driver, in critical condition and took them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared four dead. The two injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Sherpur Highway Police Station OC Anisur Rahman confirmed the deaths and said the injured are receiving treatment. Necessary legal action is being taken regarding the accident.
