Four more arrested over attack on police at Nural Pagla’s shrine
Police have arrested four more suspects in connection with the attack on law enforcement during clashes at the shrine of Nurul Haque, also known as Nural Pagla, in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari.
They were detained in overnight drives across different areas of the upazila on Sunday. With these arrests, the total number of detainees has now risen to 11.
Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Ops) Md. Sharif Al Rajib confirmed the matter on Monday morning (September 8).
The arrestees are: Saiful Islam Shuvo (19), son of Helal Uddin Sheikh from Fakirpara village; Sagor Fakir (21), son of Abdul Malek Fakir from Juran Mollapara; Billu, son of Salam from Adarshagram; and Ferdous Sardar (36), son of Nizam Uddin from Dighirchar area of Faridpur.
“After Friday’s Juma prayers, activists of Touhidi Janata carried out an attack on Nural Pagla’s shrine. At that time, police came under attack and vehicles were vandalised. Around 50 people, including policemen, were injured, and one person was killed,” Rashidul Islam said.
He added that a case was filed at midnight on Friday by SI Selim of Goalanda Ghat Police Station. The four newly arrested have been shown as accused in that case, and preparations are underway to produce them before court.
