Four more children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours

Four more children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,005 new children have been reported with confirmed measles or measles-related symptoms, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The figures were released on Thursday (July 30) in the DGHS's daily measles surveillance report.

According to the report, although four children died with measles symptoms during the reporting period, no laboratory-confirmed measles deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Since March 15, a total of 739 children have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide, while 96 children have died from laboratory-confirmed measles. Combined, the outbreak has claimed 835 child lives over the period.

The latest data show that 135 children were newly confirmed to have measles, while 870 others were identified with measles-related symptoms. During the same period, 816 children were admitted to hospitals for treatment, and 855 patients were discharged after recovery.

DGHS statistics indicate that, since March 15, Bangladesh has recorded 127,410 suspected measles cases, including 15,874 laboratory-confirmed infections.

Over the same period, 110,182 patients have required hospitalisation, of whom 106,053 have recovered and returned home after receiving treatment.

The continuing rise in infections and child fatalities has reinforced concerns among health experts, who have repeatedly stressed the importance of expanding vaccination coverage, strengthening surveillance, and ensuring early diagnosis and treatment to contain the outbreak.
