Four murders in Rangpur: Lawyers’ association will not give legal assistance to arrested
The District Lawyers’ Association has informed the decision of not conducting the case on behalf of the persons arrested in the murder of four members of the same family in Rangpur. At the same time the organisation has called for not using the murder incident politically.
General Secretary of the association Advocate Aftab Uddin informed about this decision at a press conference at the District Lawyers’ Association building around 10:30am on Saturday (August 29).
He said in their view the investigation of the case is progressing correctly so far. However it is not possible to say that with certainty until the investigation is finished. For this some more time has to be waited.
Commenting that an attempt is being made to politicise the murder on social media Aftab Uddin said it is not right to make a final comment on whether the investigation is correct before the investigation is finished. The Lawyers’ Association wants the real culprits to get punishment and the incident not to be used politically in any way.
Regarding the decision of not giving legal assistance to the arrested he said the Lawyers’ Association will wait to get more information-data in the investigation. For the time being the decision has been taken not to conduct the case as any lawyer on behalf of the persons arrested in the case. The duration of this decision is not fixed considering the situation.
Seeking more information-data and cooperation from the journalists Aftab Uddin said it has seemed to them that the investigation is progressing correctly so far due to the information and cooperation given by the media.
He said they want the correct justice of the murder of the family of Ganapati Chakrabarti. If the case goes to the higher court all kinds of necessary legal cooperation will be provided from the side of the Lawyers’ Association.
Administrator of Rangpur City Corporation Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don and leaders of various levels of the Lawyers’ Association were present at the press conference.
