Four members of a family were sustained burn injuries in a gas stove explosion at a rented house at Sonargaon in Narayanganj.

The incident took place around 4:30am in the Patatta village of the upazila early in this morning (December 6).

They were admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute for treatment.

The injured are Alauddin, 35, his daughters Shifa Akter, 14, and Simla Akter, 4, and his mother Zarina Begum, 65.

Salma Akter, sister of Alauddin, said the explosion occurred in the kitchen as Alauddin went to the washroom, instantly spreading fire to the rest of the family. Blocked doors delayed their escape, but neighbours rescued them and took them to the hospital.

Resident surgeon Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman reported burn injuries of 40 percent for Alauddin, 12 percent for Shifa, 30 percent for Simla, and 20 percent for Zarina.

All four are receiving treatment in the ward.
