Four of the same family burnt in gas explosion in Dhaka
Four members of the same family, including a three-year-old child, sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion at a rented apartment in the capital's Hazaribagh.
The explosion took place on the ground floor of Jahanara Villa at Jahanara Villa in Rayer Bazar area on Sunday night (February 22).
The victims were rescued and admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute early Monday morning.
The injured are Sheikh Noman, 35, his wife Pinky Akter, 32, their son Rohan, 3, and Noman’s brother-in-law Apu, 23.
According to reports, the explosion occurred around 3:45pm at Jahanara Villa, a six-storey building in Ray’s Bazar. A gas leak in the apartment ignited a fire that engulfed the flat. Local resident Md. Mamun rescued the victims and rushed them to the hospital.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, assistant professor and resident physician at the institute, said Sheikh Noman sustained burns over 70% of his body, Pinky Akter 75%, Rohan 35%, and Apu 50%.
Sheikh Noman hails from Mohammadpur in Khaliajuri of Netrokona, and was living in the rented apartment with his family at the time of the incident.
The cause of the gas leak is under investigation.
