Four polling centres set ablaze in darkness in Netrokona

Four polling centres were set on fire in the darkness of night in Netrokona Sadar and East Dhala upazilas. District Police Superintendent Md. Tariqul Islam said the incident occurred in the deep night on Monday, February 9.

The polling centres affected by the arson are: Parala Government Primary School, Bamonmoha Government Primary School, Nurpur Sridharpur Government Primary School in Netrokona Sadar Upazila, and Hogla Government Primary School in East Dhala Upazila.

The Police Superintendent informed that at some time between 2:00 am and the early morning on Monday, miscreants set fire to these polling centres. Kerosene or petrol was poured into jute sacks, ignited, and then thrown into the school rooms. However, there was no major damage.

He said an investigation into the incident has begun. Those involved in this arson will be identified and brought under the law. Security at the polling centres has been strengthened, and members of the law enforcement agencies have been deployed there. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure that voters can cast their votes without hindrance.

On Tuesday, February 10, at noon, District Administrator Saifur Rahman and Police Superintendent Md. Tariqul Islam visited the fire-damaged Parala Government Primary School.
