Fourth batch of uranium reaches Rooppur

The fourth shipment of uranium for the first unit of the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Pabna has arrived in Rooppur amid tight security. A convoy carrying uranium entered the project area at around 9:30 am on Friday, said site office incharge Ruhul Quddus.

Ruhul Quddus said, "Like the last three shipments, special security protocols were enforced for transporting the fourth consignment. The shipment reached the project area at 9:33 am. Earlier around 4:30 in the morning, a special fleet carrying nuclear fuel left Dhaka Airport for the project area."

Earlier, the project director of Rooppur nuclear power project, Md Shaukat Akbar, told the journalists, "According to the project schedule, the commissioning of the first unit will be in 2024. Commissioning of the first unit will require 163 assembled fuels. That is why 168 assembled fuels will reach the country in seven shipments this year."

The first shipment of nuclear fuel arrived on September 29, the second shipment on October 6 and the third shipment on October 13 reached the project area.
