Fraud allegedly found in parts of July Charter: Law Minister
Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said that there are various questions regarding the Human Rights Commission and the Enforced Disappearance Commission. He also alleged that some parts of the “July Charter” contain elements of fraud, adding that the BNP will amend and implement it according to its commitments.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting with members of the Jessore District Bar Association, held on the occasion of the inauguration of the association’s new building on Friday afternoon (April 24).
The Law Minister said, "Despite the independent judiciary in the country, the Supreme Court has failed to maintain its independence. During the previous government, the court could not remain free from political influence and in many cases behaved like a political worker."
He said, "The Separate Judiciary Secretariat Act, the Human Rights Commission Act, the Disappearance Commission Act and the July Charter Act will be submitted to the parliament after proper scrutiny. A review of these laws is necessary so that there is no room for any irregularities or questions in the future. The current government and the people expect a transparent and ethical judicial system. We want to stop the path of intellectual corruption."
Mentioning that attempts are being made to divide the country, the Law Minister said, "We do not want any division over 71 and 24. Everyone should come back from the politics of division and believe in the Bangladeshi spirit. The incidents of crossfire, disappearances and false cases in the country have come down to zero and the government is working for public welfare."
The minister promised to restore the historical reputation of the Jessore court and increase allocations for the judiciary. He also said steps would be taken through the Bar Council to increase financial support for lawyers’ families after death.
The event was chaired by District Bar Association President and District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu. Special guests included Power and Energy State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, BNP Vice Chairman Professor Nargis Begum, Jessore-5 MP Advocate Gazi Enamul Haque, District Judge Mahmuda Khanam, and District Council Administrator and District BNP General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, among others.
