BNP Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that democracy has not been fully restored, and free and fair elections remain uncertain.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (August 20) at a press conference after a committee meeting in Nayapaltan marking BNP’s 47th founding anniversary. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “There are talks of various conspiracies, but the leaders and activists remain united. BNP has made many sacrifices for democracy and continues to do so.”

Another BNP Standing Committee member, Nazrul Islam Khan, said, “No final decision has been taken on the use of EVMs. However, there are efforts to overhaul the entire electoral system using the PR (proportional representation) method.”

“It is unreasonable to impose a new system on the people. The PR system cannot be implemented without amending the constitution, and only a duly elected parliament has the authority to amend it. The current parliament is not elected by the people,” he added.
