Freedom Fighter killed in road accident in Shailkupa

A tragic road accident in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah district claimed the life of a freedom fighter on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Golam Barik Mondal, a resident of Krishnapur village in Umedpur Union. His wife, Lima Begum, was injured in the incident.

According to police, the accident occurred around nightfall on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway near the Asannagar area. Barik Mondal and his wife were returning home on a motorcycle after purchasing medicine from Vatai Bazar when a speeding truck struck them from behind.

Lima Begum was thrown to the roadside, sustaining injuries, while the truck ran over Barik Mondal, killing him instantly.

On receiving the report, fire service personnel rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Lima Begum is currently undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Arappur Highway Police Station, Mrityunjoy Biswas, confirmed the incident. He stated that the truck involved in the accident has been seized, although the driver fled the scene and remains at large.

Barik Mondal was the son of the late Hamed Ali Mondal and a respected member of the local community, remembered for his contribution to the Liberation War.
