Freedom fighters, youths paid tribute at grave of martyr Tajul

Freedom fighters, students and people of various professions have paid tribute at the grave of martyr Tajul Islam in Badarpur village of Matlab of Chandpur. They went there as part of the programme titled ‘Journey of Bengali national identity: Courage and self-sacrifice’ organized by the organization ‘Amar Priyo Bangladesh’ on Friday.

The programme started by paying tribute to the memory of martyr Noor Hossain at Zero Point of the capital at 8am. After that the participants set out for Badarpur village of Matlab of Chandpur. After reaching there they placed floral wreaths and paid salam at the grave of martyr Tajul Islam. Later one minute’s silence was observed.

Martyr Tajul Islam completed BA (Honours) and MA from the Economics Department of Dhaka University. After finishing studies he worked as a worker at Adamjee Jute Mill. He also got involved in the movement for realising the rights of the workers there. Tajul Islam was killed by taking part in the movement against the autocrat Ershad.

Freedom fighter Hilal Fayazi, freedom fighter Mahbub Zaman, Dr Ahad, engineer Uttam Kumar Das, singer and cultural organiser Alok Dasgupta, drama producer Saifuddin Ahmed, organiser Idris Ali, development worker Samapika Haldar and cultural organiser and media worker Russo Rokib along with people of various professions took part in the programme. Students of universities and schools also joined it.

At the grave premises freedom fighter Hilal Fayazi called for paying tribute to martyr Tajul Islam and his wife martyr’s wife Nasima Islam. At the same time he also recalled the courage and self-sacrifice of martyr Noor Hossain.

Freedom fighter Mahbub Zaman recalled the self-sacrifice of martyr Tajul Islam and called on the new generation to come forward in exploring history, tradition and self-sacrifice.

At the beginning of the programme Russo Rokib called on the persons present to offer floral wreaths and highlighted the objective of the organization.

The organizers informed that this programme has been organized with the aim of exploring the history of the development of the national identity of the Bengalis, courage, struggle and self-sacrifice anew and reaching it to the next generation.
