French Ambassador pays courtesy call on IGP
French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet paid a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam at Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
During the meeting, discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere regarding bilateral cooperation between Bangladeshi police and the French National Police and Gendarmerie, security measures ahead of the upcoming national election and various aspects of strengthening police capacity.
The IGP highlighted Bangladesh Police’s ongoing initiatives to enhance overall capacities, stating that intensive and practical training is being provided to police personnel in preparation for the election. He also mentioned the use of modern technology to maintain law and order during the polls and special security protocols for foreign observers and members of diplomatic missions.
Ambassador Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet expressed interest in expanding cooperation between the police forces of both countries in counterterrorism, cyber security, criminal investigation, training and institutional capacity building. He said France is keen to strengthen technical assistance in the security sector, advanced training and exchange of expertise.
The meeting also discussed possible cooperation to uphold human rights, democratic policing principles and the rule of law. Senior officials of Bangladesh Police were present at the meeting.
