Friend hacked to death in Trishal, killer surrenders

A man hacked his friend to death on the grounds of the Government Nazrul Academy in Trishal, Mymensingh. The killer later walked into the police station holding a blood-stained Chinese axe and surrendered.

The incident took place at 9pm on Thursday, November 27. The victim, Muntasir Fahim, was a resident of Ward 4 of Trishal municipality and the son of Rezaul Islam Badol. The accused, Onik Mondol, is the son of Zahirul Mondol from the same area.

According to police and local sources, Onik attacked Fahim with a sharp axe near the water tank on the southern side of the vocational section of the Government Nazrul Academy on Thursday night. Fahim died on the spot. At around 9pm, Onik went to the police station with the axe and confessed to the murder. Police took him into custody and recovered Fahim’s mutilated body from the scene.

Fahim’s grandmother Maksuda Akter said the killing was planned, and she demanded justice for the murder.

Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Golam Mustafa Rubel said the murder is believed to have resulted from a personal dispute. During preliminary interrogation, Onik admitted to committing the killing. Legal action against him is underway.
