From UP member to MP Nurul Amin

Started his political journey as a member of the Union Parishad (UP). Then UP Chairman, Upazila Parishad Chairman—step by step, Nurul Amin has risen from the local government to the stage of national politics and has now been elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 13th National Parliament election.

He contested as a candidate nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai) constituency and won. The constituency's Assistant Returning Officer Somaiya Akhter privately declared him elected at 12:00 am on Thursday February 12.

According to the election results, Nurul Amin received 1,28,799 votes. His closest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mohammad Saifur Rahman, received 84,538 votes.

Nurul Amin was born on January 1, 1968, in Patakot, a remote village in Osmanpur Union, on the southern bank of the Feni River in Mirsarai Upazila. His father is Maulana Abul Khair. His wife is Nurunnahar; he is the father of four sons and three daughters.

In his political career, he served as the General Secretary of Upazila BNP and Joint Convener of Chittagong North District BNP.

Nurul Amin first ran for the post of UP member with the aim of social service in 1998 and won. He was elected UP Chairman in 2003. In the Upazila Parishad elections held on February 19, 2014, he was elected as the Chairman by the BNP party decision, but he was later removed from that post.

Although he received the BNP nomination in the 2018 National Parliament elections, he could not win. However, this time he contested the party nomination and was elected as a member of parliament.

Nurul Amin said, the people of Mirsarai have brought me from the post of UP member to this stage today with their love. Being able to gain the trust and confidence of the common people is my biggest strength. I have not lost faith in the party despite various setbacks.

Expressing his determination to work for the welfare of the people, he said, "I want to serve the country and the people to the best of my ability."
