Fuel crisis: Road blocked, firecracker exploded in Thakurgaon
A heated situation has been created in Thakurgaon due to the protest of motorcycle drivers and owners over the fuel shortage. They blocked the Panchagarh-Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway for almost two hours, stopping the traffic. Later, the police came and brought the situation under control.
On Wednesday evening, tension first arose in front of a filling station in the Bhulli area of Sadar upazila.
Hundreds of motorcyclists had been waiting for fuel since morning, but the supply from the depot was delayed. Although the fuel arrived in the afternoon, the station authorities stopped distributing it due to the administration's deadline. Angered by this, the drivers burned tires on the road and blocked the road.
The filling station authorities said that it was not possible to sell fuel outside the specified time as per the district administration's instructions. However, the drivers could not comply and started the protest.
The same night, the protesters again blocked the Chowdhury filling station in the city after not getting fuel. The road was blocked by throwing bamboo sticks and there was a scuffle for a while. Later, law enforcement arrived and normalized the situation.
On the other hand, a firecracker-like explosion occurred at a filling station in the Nekmrod area of Ranishankail upazila. Although no one was injured, it spread panic among the general public. The station authorities said that the explosion occurred suddenly while preparing to distribute oil.
Police said that they are investigating whether there is any incitement or plan behind these incidents caused by the fuel crisis.
Overall, the suffering of the people in various areas of the northern region, including Rangpur division, is increasing due to the fuel crisis and the situation is gradually becoming worrisome.
