Fuel sale through app begins in Naogaon
Following the fuel card system, sale of fuel through a mobile app has begun in Naogaon. The new method was introduced at 11 petrol pumps in Sadar upazila from Sunday afternoon, April 5. However, while transparency has increased, customer inconvenience has not decreased, many customers claim.
According to district administration sources, fuel must now be purchased using the fuel app. The time of sale, quantity, vehicle mileage and licence number will be stored in the app. A motorcycle will be given Tk 500 worth of fuel at a time, and will only be refuelled after covering 125 kilometres. If someone tries to refuel at another pump without covering the prescribed distance, it will be detected through the app. The system will be gradually introduced at all filling stations in the district under a pilot project.
At the Sakib Filling Station at Muktir Mor around 11:00 am, long queues of motorcycles were seen waiting for fuel. Riders complained that they already had to wait in long lines, and now entering information into the app is taking additional time.
However, many customers welcomed the system. One customer said, "Many people stand in line repeatedly to refuel even when their motorcycles already have fuel. This app will stop that. We demand that this system be kept effective."
Filling station workers said they have been selling fuel through the app since morning as per district administration directives. This prevents a single customer from refuelling multiple times and makes their job easier. Training on operating the app has also been provided by the district administration.
Naogaon Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Ibnul Abedin said, "Fuel is being sold through the app at filling stations in Sadar upazila from today. Tag officers are monitoring each station. The app will be gradually introduced at all filling stations in the district."
