All petrol pumps in Narail District have been shut for a day after a filling station manager was allegedly killed by being run over by a truck for failing to supply fuel.

The victim, Nahid Sardar (33), was the manager of Tanvir Filling and Gas Station in the Tularampur area of Narail Sadar upazila. Police have detained the truck and its driver in connection with the incident.

Saiful Islam Hitu, joint convener of the petrol pump owners’ association, said all 10 pumps in the district were closed in protest over the killing.

According to station employees, the incident began around 11:30 pm on Saturday when a truck driver arrived to refuel. As there was no diesel available, the manager refused service, leading to an argument.

They alleged that the driver later threatened to run him over. Around 2:00 am, while Nahid was returning home on a motorcycle after finishing work, the truck allegedly hit him, killing him on the spot. Another employee, Jihad, who was with him, was seriously injured and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer T M Rahsin Kabir said he visited the filling station after receiving the news and that necessary measures have been taken to ensure security.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Jessore District, Abul Bashar, confirmed that the truck has been seized and is currently at Navaron Highway Police Station. He added that the arrest of the driver has been communicated to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) media cell.
