Full-day work abstention at RU protesting attacks on teachers

Rajshahi University Jatiyatabadi Shikkhok Forum has expressed anger over the attack on several teachers, including the deputy vice-chancellor, during the ward quota facility restoration movement.

The organization has announced a full-day work abstention on Sunday (September 21) to protest the incident and to demand punishment for those responsible.

In a written statement at 9:30 pm on Saturday (September 20), the forum's President, Professor Abdul Alim of the Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension, announced the programme. He said that all teachers, officers and employees will observe the strike.

Earlier in the afternoon, the protesting students locked the residences of the two deputy vice-chancellors. Unable to enter inside, they moved towards Zuberi Bhaban. When Vice-Chancellor Professor Main Uddin Khan and Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman went there, the students followed them, chanting slogans.

A scuffle broke out in front of the Zuberi building when some teachers and officials tried to stop the students. Later, when the deputy vice-chancellor went to the first floor, the protesters blocked him there.
