Former adviser to the past interim government, Mahfuz Alam, has commented on the country’s recent political situation, far-right activities, and mob violence in a Facebook post.

In the post shared, he made several suggestive remarks, alleging that extremist groups are being utilized for political interests on Monday (July 6).

In the post titled "Game Over, Khoda Hafez!" (Game Over, Goodbye!), Mahfuz Alam claimed that a right-wing political circle has used far-right groups for electoral gains. According to him, these groups were deployed as "mercenaries" in incidents such as mob violence and attacks on shrines, newspaper offices, and cultural institutions. However, he noted that now that the political objectives have been met, distances are being maintained from them.

He further alleged in the post that certain far-right groups were systematically empowered over the past two years. Through them, attempts were made to present the "July Movement" as an "Islamic," "traditionalist," or "revivalist" revolution instead of an all-inclusive mass movement. He claimed this created a negative perception of the movement among a section of the secular and pro-liberation War middle class.

Mahfuz Alam also mentioned that he has been speaking out against far-right politics and digital mobs since the beginning of last year. As a result, he noted, he had to face various conspiracies, criticism, and harassment. He concluded his post by writing that the coming days will be a time of reckoning for everyone.
