Police have arrested two youths named Akbar Sheikh, 35, and Sohag Gazi, 36, on the allegation of gang-raping a housewife after breaking into the house by cutting a hole in Tungipara of Gopalganj. Besides them, two more unidentified persons have been made accused in the case.

Police informed that the incident occurred late on Tuesday night in a village of the upazila. As the husband of the woman was in another district for agricultural labour work, she was at home with her three children. It has been alleged in the case that four persons entered the house by cutting a hole around 2am and tortured her. At that time the children’s mouths were pressed.

The victim alleged that when she bit Akbar’s finger while trying to defend herself, he got furious and punched her on the face. As a result three of her teeth were broken. Later when the neighbours came forward at the children’s screams, the accused fled.

Locals rescued the woman and took her to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex, after which the doctors sent her to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital. She is undergoing treatment there.

The victim’s father filed a case as plaintiff at Tungipara police station on Thursday. Later on the same night Akbar and Sohag were arrested from Patgati Madhyapara village. They have been sent to jail through the court on Friday.

Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara police station Ayub Ali said besides the two arrested, two more unidentified persons have been made accused in the case. Drive is ongoing to arrest them.

The victim’s family claimed that the arrested Sohag is the president of Jubo Dal of ward No. 3 of Patgati Union. However, president of Union Jubo Dal Murad Hosen denied this claim and said there is no committee of Jubo Dal in that ward and although Sohag tried to join the party he was not taken.
