Gano Odhikar Parishad blocks Dhaka-Chattogram Highway
The leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad have blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway for the second successive day, protesting an attack on their leaders in Dhaka.
They started the protest by blocking the highway in the Kotbari Bishwa Road area of Cumilla on Saturday (August 30) afternoon. At that time, the aggrieved activists set fire to tires and chanted various slogans. This created long traffic jams on both sides of the highway and caused suffering to passengers and drivers.
The leaders and activists participating in the protest kept chanting slogans like 'Why attack on Nur, the we want an answer', 'The demand is now the same, I want a ban on JaPa', etc.
The blockade, which started at 12:30 pm, lasted for about an hour. Traffic movement gradually returned to normal after the blockade was lifted around 1 pm.
Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Station, said that the police went to the spot after receiving information about the blockade. However, the blockaders left without any untoward incident. Currently, traffic movement on the highway is normal.
