Ganosanhati Andolan condemns government's role over teacher Fatema's death
Ganosanhati Andolan Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki and Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel have strongly condemned and protested the death of teacher Fatema Akhter, who died after being injured from sound grenade effect.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, they said that teacher Fatema Akhter, who participated in the movement for three-point demands including the implementation of the 10th grade, was terrified by the blast of a sound grenade in Shahbagh on November 8. She was later admitted to a hospital and taken to the ICU. Gradually, she stopped speaking and died 10 days later while undergoing treatment.
The leaders of Ganosanhati Andolan said that this death is unacceptable in any way.
In the statement, they also said that hurling sound grenades to the teachers instead of accepting the their just demands is very regrettable. Such behavior of the government and police in Bangladesh after the July mass uprising reminds us of the activities of the previous fascist government. They demanded immediate legal action against those who ordered the attack and those involved.
The leaders also said that the family of teacher Fatema Akhtar should be given maximum compensation and the state should take responsibility of the entire family, including her two children.
