Gas leakages spark fire, burn 6 in capital
Six people were burnt in two separate incidents of gas leakage in Uttarkhan and Mirpur in the capital.
They have been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Doctors said that some of them are in critical condition.
A gas cylinder explosion occurred in the kitchen of a house in Uttarkhan around 7:30am on Saturday. Three members of the same family—Ali Hossain, his wife Hasnahena and daughter Ankhi—were burnt in the incident.
Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, said that Ali Hossain suffered 100 percent burns, Hasnahena 60 percent while Ankhi 15 percent. All three of them have been kept in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Ratul Hasan Tushar, son of burnt Ali Hossain, said that doctors have said that the condition of his parents is critical.
Meanwhile, three more youths were burnt in an explosion due to a gas line leakage in the Paikpara area of Mirpur early on Saturday morning. The accident reportedly occurred while lighting a cigarette.
The injured are Miraj, 26, Sujan, 24, and Biplob, 24. Miraj suffered 15 percent burns, Sujan 24 percent and Biplob 10 percent. All three have been admitted to the ICU.
The authorities concerned are investigating the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage.
