If the price of gas is doubled, one factory after another will shut down, commented Shoukat Aziz, President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA). He stated that if this happens, the textile industry in Bangladesh will never be sustainable. New investments will not come in, and no bank will invest in new projects.

Shoukat Aziz made these remarks at a press conference organized to provide detailed information about the largest exhibition of textile machinery in the textile sector, the Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG). The press conference was held on Tuesday at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, where the organization's director Abdullah Al Mamun was also present.

Recently, Petrobangla proposed to more than double the price of gas for industry and captive power plants, raising the per-unit price from 30 taka and 31.50 taka to 75.72 taka. In response to this, BTMA held this press conference.

It was announced at the press conference that the four-day DTG exhibition will begin on Thursday. The exhibition will feature 1,600 stalls from 33 countries.

The exhibition will display textile machinery, fabrics, filaments, chemicals, dyeing technology, and accessories. In addition, there will be seminars on sustainable production and modern technology. The event will also feature the DTG Fashion Show. This exhibition will provide an opportunity for local and foreign professionals, manufacturers, and suppliers to meet under one roof.

The goal of the exhibition is to encourage local entrepreneurs to invest further in the relevant industries and to introduce them to state-of-the-art technology.
