Gazipur 5 killing: Police identify fugitive husband as prime suspect
A gruesome mass killing in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila has sent shockwaves across the area after five members of the same family—including three children—were found murdered inside a rented house. Police have identified fugitive household head Forkan Mia as the prime suspect in the killings.
The incident took place sometime late Friday night (May 8) in the Rautkona area of Kapasia. The victims were identified as Forkan’s wife Sharmin, 35, daughters Mim, 15, Maria, 12, and Faria, 2, along with his brother-in-law Rasul Mia, 18.
According to police, the victims were allegedly given sedatives mixed with food before being attacked. Investigators believe Forkan first tied up his wife near a window grill and then killed her with a sharp weapon. He later allegedly murdered his three sleeping daughters and brother-in-law in a similar manner before fleeing the scene.
Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam said Forkan had been living in the rented house with his family and worked as a private car driver. “After the killings, the suspect reportedly contacted someone over phone and disclosed the incident.
Police later recovered the bodies after being informed by relatives,” he said.
Police said bodies were found in three separate spots inside the house, and printed documents were recovered beside each body. Investigators suspect the papers may be linked to a legal case. Several indications of drug use were also found during the search operation.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police Md Sharif Uddin stated that the suspect had allegedly confessed over a phone call after carrying out the killings. “Multiple agencies are working to uncover the motive behind the murders. The matter is being investigated with utmost importance,” he said.
Family members of the victims have also raised allegations of long-term domestic abuse. Sharmin’s aunt Eva Rahman claimed that Forkan frequently tortured Sharmin over dowry demands and was involved in drug abuse. “We believe he committed the murders while under the influence of narcotics,” she alleged.
House owner Monir Hossain said Forkan had recently called his brother-in-law Rasul Mia to the house with promises of arranging a job for him. “He brought Rasul here saying he would help him get employment. Later, he killed all five. We have never witnessed anything this horrifying,” he said.
Police said efforts are underway to arrest the suspect, while the exact motive behind the brutal killings remains under investigation.
