Gazipur family massacre: Case filed against Forkan over killing five
A murder case has been filed against Forkan Molla in connection with the brutal killing of five members of his family in Kapasia of Gazipur.
Police named Forkan as the prime accused and included three to four unidentified individuals in the case.
The case was filed on Saturday evening (May 9) by Shahadat Molla, the father of victim Sharmin Khanam, at Kapasia Police Station.
The killings took place on Friday night at a rented house in Rautkona village in the upazila. The victims were identified as Sharmin Khanam, 35, her three daughters — Mim Khanam, 14, Umme Habiba, 8, and Faria (18 months) — along with Sharmin’s younger brother Rasul Molla, 18.
According to police, Forkan, a private car driver and originally from Gopalganj, has been missing since the incident. Law enforcement agencies have launched multiple operations to arrest him.
Shahinur Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kapasia Police Station, said, "Police are actively investigating the case and searching for the accused."
Disturbing footage from the crime scene showed the bodies of the three children lying side by side on the floor, while Rasul’s body was found on a bed. Sharmin’s body, with hands and mouth tied, was reportedly found attached to a window grille.
Investigators said the victims appeared to have been hacked with a heavy sharp weapon, leaving severe injuries across their bodies.
Family members and local residents said Sharmin and Forkan had been married for nearly 16 years and had long lived in Dhaka before moving to Kapasia earlier this year. Rasul worked at a garment factory in Gazipur.
Police recovered the bodies on Saturday morning and sent them to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
