The fire that broke out at a jute warehouse in Konabari of Gazipur, has not been fully controlled despite efforts for three hours.

Due to the intensity of the wind, the fire is rapidly spreading to nearby warehouses. So far, it is reported that the fire has spread to at least 10 jute warehouses.

The fire broke out at 4 pm on Thursday (January 8) in the Kanthaltala area of Deuliabari area of Konabari police station.

Locals said that there are more than a hundred jute warehouses, large and small, in the Deuliabari area. In the afternoon, a warehouse owned by a person named Arif Munshi first caught fire. Since the warehouse was stocked with a large amount of dry jute and cotton and the wind was strong, the fire spread to at least 10 nearby warehouses in an instant.

Six units of the fire service are working to control the fire. However, due to the lack of sufficient water sources at the scene and the intensity of the wind, firefighters are having a hard time putting out the fire.

The fire service said that since it is difficult to extinguish the thatch fire, water is being sprayed from all sides to prevent the fire from spreading to any new structures. Six units from Konabari, Joydevpur, Kashimpur and Kaliakoir fire stations are working on the spot after receiving the information.

Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that six units are currently working to control the fire and two more units have been kept ready as backup to deal with the situation.
