Gazipur murder: Padma Bridge CCTV captures suspect jumping into river

Police have recovered the mobile phone of Forqan Mollah, the prime suspect in the murder of five members of the same family in Kapasia, Gazipur. CCTV footage analysis shows that Forqan jumped into the river from the Padma Bridge, police said.

On Monday morning, a truck driver's assistant found a mobile phone lying near the railing in the middle of the Padma Bridge. Police later recovered the phone from Meherpur with the help of information technology and confirmed it belonged to Forqan .

CCTV footage from the bridge shows a person in a white shirt and black trousers getting out of a white private car at 6:42 am on Monday . He stood by the railing for two to three minutes before jumping into the river . Police have confirmed that the person was Forqan, and they believe he committed suicide after murdering the five family members .

The bodies of five people with their throats slit were recovered from the Routkona village in Kapasia on Saturday morning . The deceased were identified as Forqan's wife Sharmin Akter, 30; their three daughters Mim, 15; Maria, 8; and Faria, 2; and Sharmin's younger brother Rosul Mia, 22 .

Forqan, a driver by profession, had married Sharmin of Gopalganj about a decade and a half ago. The couple lived in Kapasia with their three children. Investigators believe the brutal murder was the result of a family feud .

Following the recovery of the bodies, Sharmin's father Sahadat Molla filed a murder case naming Forqan and four to five unidentified individuals as accused.
