Gazipur rail tragedy claims lives of mother, two children

A mother committed suicide by jumping under a train with her two children in Gazipur’s Pubail area .

The incident took place around 11:00am near the Nayanipara rail crossing on Monday morning (January 26).

The deceased woman was identified as Hafeza Khatun Mala, 25, daughter of Mozammel Haque of South Natun Sombazar in Kaliganj upazila. The identities of the two children could not be confirmed immediately.

According to eye-witnesses, the woman entered the railway tracks with her two children as a train was approaching. All three were critically injured in the incident. Police were alerted and later recovered the bodies from the scene.

Atiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station, said, "Police have recovered three bodies and that an investigation is underway."

"Further details will be provided after the inquiry," the OC added.
