German Ambassador confident Bangladesh will achieve its immense potential
Newly appointed German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, expressed strong confidence on Monday that Bangladesh is poised to realize its vast potential during this period of restructuring.
“Germany and Bangladesh share a longstanding relationship; we will continue to walk this path together,” Ambassador Lotz said after presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the Bangabhaban recently. The credential ceremony officially marks the beginning of Ambassador Lotz’s tenure in Bangladesh. He was accompanied by his spouse, Ivana Lotz.
Highlighting the warmth of the Bangladeshi people, the ambassador added, “Hospitality is at the very heart of Bangladesh – trust, generosity, and a strong commitment to others. The spirit of the Bangladeshi people is truly inspiring.”
Following the formal ceremony, President Shahabuddin and Ambassador Lotz engaged in discussions aimed at further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Germany and Bangladesh. Key areas of focus included the promotion of democracy and human rights, women’s empowerment, climate change mitigation, renewable energy, and enhancing economic ties through trade and investment for mutual benefit.
According to a statement from the German Embassy in Dhaka, both leaders expressed commitment to deepening cooperation in these critical fields.
Ambassador Lotz brings over three decades of diplomatic experience spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. His distinguished career includes roles such as Consul General in Karachi, Deputy Head of Mission in South Africa, Colombia, Serbia, and Afghanistan, as well as senior positions in Turkey, Kosovo, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
In addition, he has held significant posts at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, the German OSCE Mission in Vienna, and the International Civilian Office in Pristina. His expertise covers human rights, migration, economic policy, and conflict resolution.
Ambassador Lotz holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University and a Doctor of Law from Freie Universität Berlin. He has also studied law in Berlin, Lausanne, and León, and is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Serbian.
